Privacy policy
What Accra Life keeps about you, why it keeps it and for how long. Your game lives on our servers, so you can sign in anywhere. Nothing is sold, and nobody is tracked.
Who we are
Accra Life is a browser game at www.accralife.xyz. In this policy, "we" means the people who make and run it.
You can reach us through our official accounts, listed at the bottom of this page.
Your account
- A username and a password. You sign in with your username. The password is held by our sign-in provider and is never stored in plain text.
- An email, only if you give one. It is used to sign in and to reset a forgotten password, and for nothing else: no newsletters, no marketing. Without an email, a lost password cannot be recovered.
- Your age. You confirm you are 18 or older, and the date of birth you enter is checked on the server and then thrown away. We keep only the fact that you confirmed, and when.
- Sign-in attempts. Each attempt records the username and the network (IP) address it came from, so repeated guessing can be stopped. These records are deleted after one day.
Your character and your game
Your character's name, look, background and everything that happens in the city (money, job, home, belongings, skills, needs) is saved on our servers, not in your browser. Clearing your browser does not delete your character; it only signs you out.
Your position in the game is a place in the game's Accra. The game never asks for your device's real location.
What you write, record and post
- Chat. Direct and group messages are kept on our servers so they can be delivered and read later. If you unsend a message, other players stop seeing it, but moderators can still see it if it is reported. What you say out loud in the street is shown to people nearby and is not kept as text.
- A filter runs on every message and post before it is accepted. It refuses blocked words and anything that looks like an email address, a phone or mobile money number, or a link, to protect you from sharing them.
- Voice notes. The game uses your microphone only while you hold the record button on a voice note, after your browser asks your permission. A note is up to 30 seconds, is stored privately, can be heard only by you and the player you sent it to, and is deleted after 30 days. If a note is reported, a moderator may keep access for up to 30 more days while the report is looked at, and 7 days after it is closed.
- Photos. The in-game camera takes a picture of the game, not of you: it never opens your device's camera. Photos are stored privately. A photo you post on Zeebs, the game's social feed, can be seen by other players, as can your posts and comments.
- Paid adverts and songs. If you buy an advert, we keep the picture and the link you give us; once approved, the picture is public in the game. If you buy a song slot in the clubs, we keep the audio file, its title, the artist name and any link. Both are checked by a moderator before they appear.
Payments
Buying in-game cedis, adverts or song slots is optional. Payments are made on Paystack's own payment page. Your card or mobile money details go to Paystack and never reach us.
We send Paystack the amount, a payment reference and your account email (or a stand-in address if you gave none). We keep what was bought, the amount, the payment reference, its status and when it happened. We keep payment records even if an account is removed, because they are the record of a real payment.
Logs that keep the game fair
Every action in the game, including the text of what you send, is written to an audit log. It is how bugs are traced, how cheating is caught and how a moderator checks what really happened before acting on a report. This log is kept for 30 days. Moderators' own actions are logged permanently, and a moderator who opens a player's full record must give a reason, which is logged too.
What other players see
Other players see your username, your character's name and look, where your character stands when you share a street, and what you choose to post or send them. They do not see your email, your password or your payment details.
What your browser keeps
The game sets no cookies. It uses your browser's own storage to keep you signed in and to remember small things on this device: your settings (such as light or dark, and sound), that you accepted the content notice, and which tips and hints you have already seen. None of it is your game, and clearing it costs you nothing but signing in again.
Who else handles your data
We do not sell, rent or trade your data, and there is no advertising network, analytics or tracking script in the game. These services handle data only to run it:
- Supabase stores the game's database, accounts and files.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Paystack takes payments.
- Resend delivers the sign-in and password-reset emails.
- Google Fonts and jsDelivr serve the game's lettering and icons. Your browser fetches them directly, so they see your device's network address, as any website does. They get no account or game data.
Shares out of the game
The share buttons open TikTok, X or WhatsApp with words you can change. Nothing is posted until you post it yourself, and those apps see only what you post.
Your choices
- You can play without giving an email.
- You can refuse the microphone; the rest of the game works without it.
- You can block any player and report anything that worries you.
- To ask what we hold about you, to correct it or to have your account deleted, contact us through our official accounts. The game does not have a delete button yet.
Age
Accra Life is for adults 18 and over. It is a work of fiction with crime, drugs, an illegal weapons trade and gambling in it, all with consequences. If you are under 18, do not play.
Changes to this policy
If what the game collects changes, this page changes with it, and the date below moves.
